The Department of Radio Electronics of Peking University was founded in 1958 and renamed to "Department of Electronics of Peking University" in 1996. On November 12, 2021, it was officially established as the "School of Electronics".The School consists of 115 faculty members: 48 professors/researchers, 40 associate professors/associate researchers and 1 lecturer, including 5 Academicians/Joint Academicians, 6 Distinguished Professors of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, 8 Distinguished Young Scholars of the National Science Fund, 8 Excellent Young Scholars of the National Science Fund, 2 IEEE Fellows, 7 Chief Scientists of the National 973 Program/ National Key Research and Development Program, 3 National-Level Scientists of the New Century “National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Program”, and 2 winners of Beijing University Teaching Master Award. There are approximately 500 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled. The School of Electronics has strong teaching and research capabilities. It undertakes the construction of several national level or provincial level teaching and research platforms, such as "State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and Networks", "Key Laboratory for the Physics and Chemistry of Nanodevices", "Beijing Key Laboratory of Solid-State Quantum Devices", "Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Mobile Digital Hospital System", "SAPPRFT Engineering Technology Research Center for Broadband Coaxial Network". The university-level research institution, Carbon-based Electronics Research Center, affiliated with the School of Electronics. The Center engaged in various general programs and key programs supported by National Programs for Science and Technology Development, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program), National High-tech Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), and National “Climbing” Program.
